A recruiter stared at over 1,200 applications for a single sales role. After weeks of screening resumes and taking interviews, only 3 candidates were considered “job-ready.”

That moment became the starting point for Just Lemmino- an AI-powered communication and hiring platform being built by young Indian founder Sayak Gupta.

At an age when most students are still preparing for placements, Sayak is building technology aimed at solving one of India’s largest employability and hiring crises: the gap between degrees and real communication skills.

India produces more than 10 million graduates every year, but employability remains a major challenge. While students spend years preparing for technical exams and academic scores, companies hiring for sales, customer support, business development, and client-facing roles still struggle to find candidates who can communicate confidently in real professional situations.

This problem is even more severe in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where a large percentage of India’s talent comes from. Many students have the technical ability but lack exposure to interview preparation, English speaking confidence, soft skills training, and real-world communication practice.

At the same time, HR teams and recruiters are overwhelmed.

Companies today receive hundreds or even thousands of job applications for a single role. Traditional ATS software and resume screening tools can filter profiles based on keywords, degrees, or experience, but they cannot evaluate the one thing that actually matters in communication-heavy jobs — how a candidate performs in a real conversation.

As a result, recruiters spend weeks manually screening candidates through phone calls and interviews, only to still face high rejection rates, poor hiring quality, and employee attrition.

This is where Just Lemmino enters.

Lemmino is an AI roleplay and AI mock interview platform designed to improve communication skills and automate candidate screening through real-world conversational simulations.

The platform works through two core experiences: “Get Hired” and “Hire.”

For students and job seekers, Lemmino acts as an AI communication coach. Users can practice mock interviews, sales pitches, meetings, HR rounds, and English speaking conversations with AI-powered roleplays. The system analyzes confidence, fluency, communication clarity, and conversational structure while giving personalized feedback in real time.

For companies, Lemmino functions as an AI hiring and screening platform. Instead of relying only on resumes, recruiters can automatically send candidates into a 5-minute AI interview simulation where the platform evaluates communication skills, confidence, objection handling, and real conversational ability.

The result is a shift from resume-based hiring to performance-based hiring.

Unlike traditional AI recruitment software that mainly automates workflows such as scheduling or resume filtering, Lemmino focuses on conversational intelligence and communication performance. The startup is positioning itself at the intersection of AI hiring, AI recruitment, communication skills training, and workforce intelligence.

The idea initially began as an AI communication improvement tool for students. However, after continuous conversations with HR teams, recruiters, startup founders, and sales leaders, the vision evolved into something larger.

The founder realized the problem existed on both sides of the system.

Students lacked access to scalable communication coaching, while companies lacked scalable communication evaluation.

That insight transformed Lemmino into a closed-loop AI platform where candidates can practice, improve, get evaluated, and eventually get hired through the same infrastructure.

The startup has already started seeing early traction across both users and companies, while building visibility through founder-led LinkedIn content around hiring inefficiencies, employability gaps, AI recruitment, and the future of work.

The timing is important. AI hiring tools, AI recruitment platforms, AI interview software, mock interview apps, and communication skill platforms are rapidly growing categories globally. But most platforms still optimize hiring speed rather than hiring quality.

Lemmino wants to solve something deeper.

Its long-term vision is to become the AI-powered performance layer for communication — where hiring decisions are based not on what candidates write on resumes, but on how they actually communicate in realistic situations.

For a young Indian founder, that may sound ambitious.

But in a world increasingly shaped by AI, the ability to communicate effectively may become one of the most valuable skills of all.
