He Rejected Comfort, Lost Everything, Started Again — The Untold Story of the 22-Year-Old Who Built Jemappelle Digital

He Had Two Paths. He Chose One Purpose: How a 22-Year-Old From a Middle-Class Family Built Jemappelle Digital Against All Odds

At just 22 years of age, while pursuing his graduation and coming from a middle-class family, Sourav Laha dared to dream differently. While most students were focused on securing a stable job after college, he envisioned building an organization that would create opportunities for others. In 2021, that vision took shape with the foundation of Jemappelle Digital. It was never about becoming another digital marketing agency; it was about creating a company that could help businesses embrace technology, strengthen their brands, and grow in an increasingly digital economy.

The position offered financial security, international exposure, and a comfortable future. Yet, despite having the chance to settle abroad, Sourav chose to return to India because he believed his purpose was greater than personal success. He wanted to build something that could contribute to the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystemandempowerbusinessesthroughinnovationandtechnology.

His journey, however, was anything but easy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company where he worked faced massive workforce reductions. As part of his responsibilities, he was expected to send termination emails to members of his own team. Unable to accept the idea of dismissing colleagues who had stood beside him, he refused. The decision reportedly resulted in him being reprimanded and eventually losing his own job. For Sourav, leadership meant standing with people even when it meant sacrificing his own career.

Just as the business started gaining momentum, another devastating challenge struck. His father suffered a severe stroke, forcing him to return to Kolkata. Nearly all of his savings and business capital were spent on medical treatment, leaving him financially exhausted and mentally broken. For a brief period, he returned to a conventional 9-to-5 job to rebuild his life. But he soon realised that while many people search for employment, only a few are willing to create employment for others. Determined to fulfil the vision he had first imagined at the age of 22, he resigned once again and rebuilt Jemappelle from the ground up.

Today, Jemappelle Digital has grown into a business growth ecosystem offering website development, branding, digital marketing, SEO, performance marketing, graphicdesign, video production, software development, and business consultation.
