Young Innovators from UEM Build AyuGen – It’s BioTime Kolkata
Innovation often begins with a simple idea, and for a team of students from the University of Engineering and Management (UEM), Newtown, Kolkata, that idea has grown into AyuGen – It’s BioTime, an emerging educational startup dedicated to making learning more engaging, concept-based, and accessible. The initiative was inspired through the entrepreneurship program of the Wadhwani Foundation, where the founders learned how to transform a classroom idea into a structured venture.
The founding team comprises Bhumika Barman along with Sambuddha Dutta and Sagnik Das, all associated with UEM. Together they envisioned a platform that helps students move beyond rote memorisation by offering structured study resources, interactive content, and modern digital learning experiences. Although the startup is currently in its first trial phase, it has already taken important steps toward establishing its identity.
AyuGen initially focuses on biology education while gradually expanding to additional subjects for students from Classes 7–9 and senior secondary learners. The founders are developing concept-based notes, quizzes, educational videos, revision material, and a supportive learning community. Their website serves as the first digital home for the project and reflects the team’s long-term vision of building a comprehensive educational ecosystem.
To reach learners across India, the team has also launched an official YouTube channel featuring educational explainers, revision tips, career guidance, and updates about the startup. By combining short-form and long-form content, the founders hope to make quality learning available to students regardless of location.
Creativity has extended beyond classrooms through the podcast “Memoirs and Stories,” available on Spotify. The podcast explores childhood memories, inspiring experiences, motivation, and personal growth, encouraging listeners to connect with meaningful stories while promoting communication and lifelong learning.
The entrepreneurial journey has received encouraging recognition. The founder was honoured with the Young Founders Award at the Indian Icon Awards, recognising commitment to innovation and youth entrepreneurship. The startup has also been nominated for opportunities with the WEPAC organization, providing another platform to present its vision, receive mentorship, and strengthen its roadmap.
The team believes that building trust is more important than rapid expansion. They are currently collaborating with educators, recruiting student ambassadors, refining content, and gathering feedback from early users before a wider rollout. This gradual approach allows AyuGen to improve continuously while remaining focused on student needs.
Looking ahead, the founders plan to introduce structured online courses, expand subject offerings, strengthen community engagement, and create opportunities for students interested in research, competitive examinations, and skill development. They also hope to collaborate with educators and institutions that share their vision of accessible, high-quality education.
AyuGen – It’s BioTime demonstrates how determination, collaboration, and entrepreneurial learning can empower university students to create solutions with real social impact. While still in its early stages, the startup reflects the aspirations of a new generation of innovators committed to reshaping education through technology, creativity, and purpose.
