666-Page ‘Indian Civilization Reborn – Volume I’ Launched on Independence Day and Dedicated to Ma Prakriti
History Researcher Dinesh Chandra Rawat marks the launch with flag hoisting, a talk on “Why Indian Civilization Reborn?”, Hawan at Ma Prakriti Mandir and a symbolic offering of the book to Mother Nature
Kolkata, 15 August 2026: Indian Civilization Reborn – Volume I, a 666-page work by author, history researcher and environmentalist Dinesh Chandra Rawat, was launched at Green Mall, Kolkata, on Independence Day with an unusual and deeply symbolic dedication — the first copy was offered to Ma Prakriti, Mother Nature.
The programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag, placing the launch in the wider context of India’s Independence Day.
This was followed by a talk by Rawat on “Why Indian Civilization Reborn?”, in which he explained the thinking and decades of inquiry behind the work and the need to encourage Indians—particularly younger generations—to examine their civilizational past with curiosity, evidence and an independent spirit of inquiry.
Why ‘Indian Civilization Reborn’?
Rawat’s engagement with questions surrounding Indian history and civilization spans more than three decades and has involved extensive reading, travel, visits to historical and archaeological sites, documentation and interaction with local people and researchers.
Indian Civilization Reborn – Volume I seeks to look beyond a history centred predominantly on rulers, invasions and political events.
Across its 666 pages, the work explores India’s civilizational journey through a wider canvas encompassing history, archaeology, ancient knowledge traditions, philosophy, science, architecture, sacred geography and cultural memory.
At the heart of the work is a call to readers not merely to inherit historical narratives, but to question, investigate and examine evidence.
Rawat particularly wants younger Indians to ask four fundamental questions:
What happened?
What is the evidence?
How do we know?
What remains to be discovered?
From the National Flag to Ma Prakriti
Following the discussion on Indian Civilization Reborn, the programme moved to Ma Prakriti Mandir, where a Hawan was performed.
The ceremony culminated in the symbolic moment at the heart of the launch: Indian Civilization Reborn – Volume I was offered to Ma Prakriti.
The dedication was intended to connect two major strands of Rawat’s life’s work — his long exploration of India’s civilizational history and his decades-long commitment to plants, gardening and environmental responsibility.
For Rawat, civilization cannot be understood entirely separately from nature. India’s relationship with its rivers, forests, trees, animals, land and the wider natural world forms an important part of its civilizational inheritance.
The dedication therefore carried a message extending beyond the publication of a book:
To rediscover our civilizational inheritance is also to rediscover our responsibility towards nature and future generations.
History Research and Environmental Action Come Together
Rawat’s work today brings together three interconnected pursuits — history research, knowledge sharing and environmental action.
Through Glories of India and his books, he seeks to encourage greater public engagement with India’s history and civilizational heritage.
His environmental journey has developed alongside this work. Through Green Mall and Prakriti Bandhu Trust, he has promoted gardening, greener surroundings and the idea that every individual can become a Prakriti Bandhu — a friend and protector of nature.
The Independence Day launch of Indian Civilization Reborn – Volume I therefore brought these two journeys together in one ceremony: remembering Bharat’s civilizational inheritance while acknowledging Ma Prakriti as an inheritance that must be protected.
