From Medical Student to Entrepreneur: How Shailpik Naskar Is Building a Brand Alongside Medicine

When Medicine Met Entrepreneurship

At 22, Shailpik Naskar is pursuing a demanding path that requires discipline, patience, and years of dedicated study. A second-professional Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) student at Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Ayurved and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune, Shailpik is preparing for a career in medicine while simultaneously building something that lies outside the conventional path of a medical student: his own e-commerce business.

For many students, balancing lectures, practicals, examinations, clinical learning, and the pressure of medical education is already a full-time commitment. For Shailpik, however, his curiosity extends beyond medicine. He has always been deeply interested in entrepreneurship, e-commerce, technology, website development, digital marketing, graphic design, and the rapidly evolving world of online business.

Instead of choosing between his education and his entrepreneurial interests, he decided to pursue both.

That decision led to the creation of KEYMOTION.

Building KEYMOTION From the Ground Up

KEYMOTION began as more than just an online store. For Shailpik, it became an opportunity to understand every layer of running a modern e-commerce brand.

Rather than simply investing money and outsourcing the work, he chose to learn the process himself.

He built the e-commerce website, designed the brand’s visual identity, created product mockups, developed promotional posts and banners, worked on packaging concepts, and learned how products move from procurement to production and eventually into the hands of customers.

He also worked on establishing relationships with multiple courier and logistics companies, enabling KEYMOTION to serve customers across almost every pincode in India.

The journey required learning skills that are rarely taught inside a medical classroom: procurement, vendor coordination, production management, printing, packaging, logistics, customer experience, website development, advertising, analytics, and digital sales.

What started as curiosity gradually became a functioning business.

The One-Man Business Behind the Brand

One of the most remarkable aspects of Shailpik’s journey is that KEYMOTION has been built as a one-person operation alongside his medical education.

He has personally handled areas ranging from product development and website management to graphics, marketing, order operations, and customer acquisition.

Over time, he developed expertise across several areas of digital marketing, including Meta advertising, social media marketing, email marketing, content creation, and online brand positioning.

Today, according to Shailpik, KEYMOTION has reached a monthly run rate of approximately ₹2 lakh, with annual revenue in the range of ₹20–25 lakh.

Perhaps more interesting than the numbers themselves is how they were achieved.

Shailpik says he currently dedicates roughly two hours a day to the startup while continuing his BAMS education.

The achievement demonstrates what can happen when limited time is combined with consistency, self-learning, and a willingness to take responsibility for every part of the process.

A Medical Student Who Thinks Like a Builder

Shailpik’s entrepreneurial journey has not replaced his interest in medicine. In many ways, it has expanded it.

Studying Ayurveda has given him a strong interest in traditional Indian systems of health and wellness, while entrepreneurship has taught him how ideas can be transformed into products that reach people at scale.

His next ambition lies at the intersection of these two worlds.

Alongside KEYMOTION, Shailpik is researching and working on the development of Ayurvedic health supplements and wellness products, with plans to introduce them through a new all-India e-commerce brand.

The goal is not simply to sell products online, but to understand how Ayurvedic knowledge, responsible product development, modern branding, technology, and e-commerce can come together to make traditional wellness products more accessible to consumers across the country.

This represents a natural evolution of his journey: from learning medicine, to understanding products, to learning how products can be responsibly taken to a national audience.

Turning Skills Into Independence

For a young medical student, entrepreneurship has also provided something deeply practical: financial independence.

Building KEYMOTION has allowed Shailpik to contribute toward his own educational and personal expenses while continuing his studies.

But he views the current scale as only the beginning.

The business is presently operated largely by him, with no dedicated employee team. Shailpik believes that the next stage of growth will come from building systems, hiring the right people, and expanding operations.

If a business can generate its current level of revenue with approximately two hours of daily attention from a medical student, the potential becomes considerably larger when supported by a professional team and dedicated resources.

His ambition is therefore not simply to run a successful small business, but to eventually build scalable brands that can operate beyond his personal involvement.

Where Medicine and Business Come Together

What makes Shailpik’s story particularly interesting is not that a young person started an e-commerce company.

It is that he chose to build one while pursuing one of the most academically demanding professional courses.

Medicine requires long-term commitment. Entrepreneurship requires experimentation and resilience. Ayurveda requires respect for knowledge, tradition, and patient well-being. Modern business requires innovation, technology, and adaptability.

Shailpik is attempting to bring these seemingly different worlds together.

His experience with technology and digital marketing has given him the ability to build and communicate brands. His BAMS education provides the medical and Ayurvedic foundation for his future ambitions in healthcare and wellness.

The combination could eventually become one of his greatest strengths.

A Future Doctor With an Entrepreneurial Vision

Shailpik Naskar’s journey reflects a changing generation of medical students—young professionals who are not necessarily defined by a single career path.

For him, becoming a doctor remains the primary academic and professional journey. Entrepreneurship is an additional avenue through which he can explore creativity, technology, independence, and innovation.

His story also carries a simple message: a demanding education does not necessarily have to prevent a young person from pursuing other ambitions. With discipline and effective time management, different interests can coexist and even strengthen one another.

Today, KEYMOTION represents the entrepreneurial side of that journey. Tomorrow, his vision extends toward Ayurvedic products, health and wellness, e-commerce, and potentially much larger ventures.

From studying Ayurveda in the classroom to building websites, designing products, managing logistics, learning digital marketing, and serving customers across India, Shailpik Naskar is building his future one skill at a time. And perhaps that is what makes his journey most remarkable—not that he chose business instead of medicine, but that he chose to pursue entrepreneurship alongside medicine, proving that the future doctor can also be a builder, innovator, and entrepreneur
