FROM HOMEMAKER TO QUEEN, QUEEN MAKER TO CONFIDENCE MAKER: THE REMARKABLE JOURNEY OF PRATIBHA SAUNSHIMATH
There are journeys that are carefully planned, and then there are journeys that unfold one courageous step at a time.
Pratibha Saunshimath’s story belongs to the second kind.
A homemaker who spent years putting her family first, Pratibha never imagined that one day she would walk onto a pageant stage, win an international crown, build a pageant platform of her own, mentor hundreds of women, step into films and advertising, and eventually create an academy dedicated to helping people discover confidence through movement and self-expression.
Today, as she completes 60 years of her life, Pratibha is not looking at the milestone as an ending.
She is going stronger than ever.
And perhaps the most remarkable part of her journey is that every new chapter has grown naturally from the one before it.
THE CROWN THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Pratibha’s transformation began when she decided to step outside the familiar identity of homemaker and test herself on a completely different stage.
In 2014, she participated in Mrs India and emerged as the first runner-up.
But she did not stop there.
At the age of 49, she returned to the pageant world and went on to win a Mrs India crown in 2015, becoming the first South Indian to achieve this distinction. She subsequently represented India internationally and won the title of Classic Mrs Asia International Mrs Photogenic 2015, becoming the first Kannadiga married woman to hold an international beauty title.
For many, that crown might have been the destination.
For Pratibha, it became the beginning.
The experience opened her eyes to something much bigger: there were countless married women who possessed talent, beauty, intelligence and ambition, but simply did not have a platform where they could rediscover themselves.
She decided to create one.
THE CROWN BECAME A CALLING
In 2016, Pratibha founded Mrs India Karnataka, creating a dedicated platform for married women in Karnataka.
What made the initiative different was her belief that pageantry should not be restricted by conventional ideas of age, appearance or body type.
Her very first edition brought together women across different age groups, including a 60+ category. One of the early highlights was a 74-year-old woman winning the senior category—an experience that reinforced Pratibha’s belief that confidence has no expiry date.
The platform became about far more than crowns and sashes.
It became a space where women could walk onto a stage and rediscover a part of themselves they had perhaps forgotten.
Over the years, Pratibha groomed and mentored women who went on to represent Karnataka and India at various levels of pageantry.
She was gradually becoming known not simply as a pageant director, but as a Queen Maker—someone who helped other women find the confidence to wear their own crowns.
FROM MRS INDIA KARNATAKA TO ASTRAL PAGEANTS
What began as a state-level initiative continued to grow.
In 2024, Pratibha rebranded and expanded the platform as Astral Pageants, taking her vision to a national level through Miss & Mrs India Astral.
The evolution reflected her changing understanding of pageantry.
Astral was not simply about finding a winner.
It was about creating an environment where participants could learn, grow, communicate, carry themselves with confidence and discover their individual strengths.
The platform expanded to include categories for different stages of a woman’s life, including Miss, Lady, Mrs, Elite Mrs and Super Elite Mrs. She also created platforms for younger participants through Astral Star Kids and Astral Mommy & Me.
Her philosophy remained consistent:
“Age is just a number. Confidence is timeless.”
And the growth of Astral Pageants became another chapter in a journey that had started with one woman simply deciding to believe in herself.
FROM QUEEN TO QUEEN MAKER
Perhaps Pratibha’s greatest achievement is not the crown she won herself, but the number of women she has helped believe that they, too, are capable of standing on a stage.
Over the years, she has mentored and groomed hundreds of women, helping them prepare for pageants at state, national and international levels.
But her mentorship has often gone beyond ramp walks, poses and pageant training.
Pratibha has counselled women who were struggling with confidence and emotional challenges, encouraging them to rebuild their self-belief and take control of their lives.
Some women who once came to her simply looking for pageant guidance have continued to regard her as a mentor and a source of strength.
For Pratibha, that is the real meaning of being a Queen Maker.
“The crown is temporary. The confidence you build in a woman can last a lifetime.”
THE WOMAN BEHIND THE CROWN ALSO FOUND THE CAMERA
While pageantry became one of the defining chapters of her life, Pratibha’s creative journey has never been limited to the world of crowns and stages.
She has built a substantial portfolio in advertising, appearing in more than 40 commercials and campaigns for brands and organisations across different sectors.
Her work has included campaigns associated with brands such as Govardhan Ghee, Nutrislim, Scooty Zest, OLA, BlissClub Apparel, Leela Bhartiya City, EMIR Institute of Business, VRL Travels, LivMuztang, Fortis La Femme, Kanva Mart, Kanva Resorts, MTR Masala, Bounce and Barbeque Nation, among others.
Each project added another dimension to her understanding of camera presence, expression and performance.
Her journey also extended into cinema.
She appeared in the Tamil film Kanaa and played the role of a mother in the Kannada film Naanu Kusuma. She has also been associated with Kannada films including Love Mattru, Nan Magale Superstar and Kushmandaroopaa, with another project in the pipeline.
Her creative involvement in cinema began even earlier when she worked as the Production Designer for the Kannada film Prem Kahani in 2008.
She also reached the studio round of Dance India Dance Super Moms Season 2, adding yet another experience to a career that has continually crossed boundaries.
From homemaker to pageant contestant, from international titleholder to pageant director, from mentor to actor and advertising personality, Pratibha has never allowed herself to remain confined to a single identity.
A WOMAN WHO KEEPS REINVENTING HERSELF
There is another important thread running through Pratibha’s story: she has never believed that age should determine ambition.
Her own life is perhaps her strongest evidence.
She stepped into pageantry at an age when many women might have considered that chapter closed.
She built a business after becoming a titleholder.
She continued working in advertising and cinema.
She mentored women from different backgrounds and age groups.
She expanded a state-level pageant into a national platform.
And now, as she completes 60 years, she is embarking on another transformation.
Not slowing down.
Not stepping back.
But stepping into a new role.
FROM CREATING QUEENS TO CREATING CONFIDENCE
The next evolution of Pratibha’s journey is Confident Strides Academy.
If pageantry taught her how powerful confidence can be, years of mentoring taught her that confidence should not belong only to those who aspire to wear a crown.
It should belong to everyone.
That belief is at the heart of Confident Strides Academy.
Through the academy, Pratibha is bringing her experience in ramp walking, posture, body language, presentation, expression and stage confidence to children, teenagers, young adults and others who want to become more confident in the way they carry themselves.
Because, for her, a confident walk is not merely about walking on a ramp.
It is about walking through life with your head held high.
The academy represents a beautiful full-circle moment.
The woman who once had to find her own confidence is now teaching others how to find theirs.
SIXTY, BUT JUST GETTING STARTED
At 60, Pratibha Saunshimath could easily look back at her life and celebrate what she has already accomplished.
The homemaker who became a queen.
The queen who became a Queen Maker.
The pageant director who built Astral Pageants.
The mentor who transformed the confidence of hundreds of women.
The woman who explored advertising, cinema, television and media.
But Pratibha is choosing to look forward.
Completing 60 years is not making her slow down. If anything, it seems to have given her another reason to accelerate.
Her journey today is no longer only about crowns.
It is about confidence.
It is about helping people stand taller, walk stronger and believe in themselves.
And perhaps that is the most fitting next chapter for a woman whose own life has demonstrated the power of reinvention.
From homemaker to queen.
From queen to Queen Maker.
And now, from Queen Maker to Confidence Maker.
AT 60, PRATIBHA SAUNSHIMATH IS STILL WALKING FORWARD — AND, AS SHE HAS TAUGHT SO MANY OTHERS, SHE INTENDS TO WALK LIKE A QUEEN.
