She Had No Business Degree, No Roadmap and No Conventional Background. She Started Anyway.

How Masroor Sakina, a Mother of Two Without a Formal Higher Education Background, Taught Herself Digital Marketing and Built AE Designer Studios

There are entrepreneurs who begin with business degrees, corporate experience, financial backing and carefully planned strategies.

And then there are those who begin with very little, learn along the way and build something of their own.

Masroor Sakina belongs to the second kind.

A mother of two without a formal higher education background in business, Masroor did not have a conventional path into entrepreneurship. What she had was curiosity, creativity and a willingness to keep learning. Through the uncertainty and challenges that came with building something of her own, she also had her husband by her side, encouraging her to keep going.

Today, she is the founder of AE Designer Studios, a Bangalore based creative and digital marketing business working across social media marketing, graphic design, content creation, website design and digital marketing. Her LinkedIn profile reflects this broad creative and marketing focus.

But the story behind the business began long before AE Designer Studios.

The First Business Was Not Digital

Masroor’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2015 with a small clothing business that she ran from home.

It was her first experience of building something of her own. It also introduced her to the realities of entrepreneurship. Managing stock, dealing with changing circumstances and navigating setbacks tested her ability to keep moving forward.

The business did not continue as planned.

But sometimes, an ending creates space for a completely different beginning.

While running her clothing business, Masroor joined a women’s business community created by another woman entrepreneur. She entered the community simply as a clothing brand owner, looking to connect with other women, learn and grow her business.

What happened next changed the direction of her journey.

As she interacted with other women entrepreneurs, Masroor began helping them create designs, posters and social media accounts for their businesses. Her ability to understand what a business needed visually and communicate it through design started getting noticed.

The women around her encouraged her to explore these abilities further.

What began as helping fellow women with their businesses slowly introduced her to an entirely different field.

Digital marketing.

The women she met through that community became more than connections. Their encouragement helped her recognise a capability she had not considered as a career.

And throughout her journey, women continued to be an important source of motivation for her.

Learning From the Very Basics

Masroor did not enter digital marketing through a prestigious institution or a conventional business education.

She started small.

Her early learning came through basic digital marketing courses, recorded classes and lessons presented through PPTs.

She watched the classes, learnt the fundamentals, experimented and gradually began applying what she learnt to real work.

There was no overnight transformation.

There was simply the willingness to learn one thing, practise it and then learn the next.

That basic foundation eventually became practical experience.

Freelancing followed. She began working with different businesses, developing her skills across social media, content and design. Along the way, she gained further professional experience and began understanding how creativity and digital marketing could work together to solve real business problems.

What started with recorded classes and basic presentations slowly became a professional skill set.

From Freelancer to Founder

As the work grew, so did the responsibilities.

Masroor was no longer simply creating designs. She was communicating with clients, developing content, managing social media, thinking about websites, understanding audiences and finding solutions to everyday business problems.

Freelancing gradually became something bigger.

That journey led to AE Designer Studios, founded in 2020.

For Masroor, however, design has never been only about making something look good.

It is about understanding the business behind the design.

What does the brand want to communicate?

Who is it speaking to?

What should people remember?

And how can creativity help that business stand apart?

That thinking has become central to the way she approaches her work.

Building While Learning

Perhaps the most defining part of Masroor’s entrepreneurial journey is that she never waited until she knew everything.

In a recent LinkedIn reflection, she wrote about how running AE Designer Studios taught her that experience does not always come from courses or certificates. Sometimes it comes from handling clients, creating content, fixing designs, solving last minute problems and figuring out how to make a small brand look professional.

Her philosophy is simple.

You do not always learn first and build later. Sometimes, you build while you learn.

A client brings a challenge.

She finds a solution.

A new tool appears.

She learns it.

Something does not work.

She improves it.

Then she does it all over again.

That cycle of learning, applying and improving has become part of the foundation of AE Designer Studios.

More Than a Creative Business

Today, Masroor’s role extends far beyond that of a designer.

She is a founder, marketer, creative professional, client manager and problem solver, while also being a mother of two.

Building a business while raising a family has meant learning to balance ambition with everyday responsibilities. Having her husband’s support along the way has been an important part of that journey, giving her the encouragement to continue exploring and building something of her own.

Her days are rarely identical.

One day may involve developing a social media strategy. Another may involve designing a campaign, planning a website, writing content or solving a client’s last minute problem.

That unpredictability is part of entrepreneurship.

And it is also what keeps the work exciting.

The Qualification She Built Herself

Masroor’s story is not about having the perfect qualifications before starting.

It is about creating her own qualification through experience.

Every client became a lesson.

Every mistake became feedback.

Every challenge became an opportunity to learn something new.

From a home based clothing business to digital marketing.

From helping women in a business community to discovering her own creative capabilities.

From basic recorded classes and PPTs to real client projects.

From freelancing to founding AE Designer Studios.

Her journey is a reminder that a person’s starting point does not have to define their destination.

She did not begin with a roadmap.

She built one along the way.

And perhaps that is the most powerful lesson in her story:

You do not need to know everything before you begin. Sometimes, you simply need the courage to begin, the humility to learn and the determination to keep going.
