Book Synopses:
- Periya Samy – Tamil Historical Novel
Synopsis: “Periya Samy” is an epic historical novel recounting the divine saga of Lord Periya Samy, who emerged as a Suyambu Lingam from the saline soil of coastal Uvari in Southern India. It chronicles the unwavering faith and united sacrifice of the Nadar and Ayar communities as they overcome immense challenges – from natural calamities to social conflicts – to build a magnificent temple around Him.
More than just the history of a temple, this novel vividly portrays the resilience of a community, the power of belief, and the soul of the Uvari soil. It’s a gripping narrative of miracles, trials, and enduring faith.
- Bhagavan Vaikundar – Tamil Historical Novel
Synopsis: This novel chronicle the monumental social revolution of South Travancore. “Bhagavan Vaikundar” captures the dawn of equality in the 19th century, a time marred by severe caste oppression and the tyranny of the Travancore princely state. It tells the powerful story of Ayya Vaikundar, whose teachings ignited the “Thetchanathu Vidiyal” (The Southern Dawn).
At a time when basic human rights like wearing a turban or covering one’s upper body were denied to the oppressed, Vaikundar’s proclamation that “protecting the downtrodden is the ultimate Dharma” sparked a massive awakening. Author Nanjil Nagan weaves historical accuracy with compelling storytelling to present Vaikundar not just as a spiritual avatar, but as the first fighter for human rights in the region.
- Neeli Devi – Tamil Historical Novel
Synopsis: “Neeli Devi” is an epic that explores the duality of womanhood-gentle
compassion and fierce fury against injustice. Starting with the dreams of Sivagami, the novel narrates the harrowing journey of a woman betrayed by deceit, who rises from the ashes as the formidable Neeli Devi to restore justice. The iconic imagery of Neeli, holding a child in her left hand and a trident in her right, serves as a powerful symbol of maternal love and martial valor.
Set against a rich historical tapestry, the book delves into the struggles women faced and how they transcended victimhood to become forces of nature. The author gives a fresh historical dimension to the legend of Neeli, presenting it not as a mere ghost story, but as a righteous battle for feminine dignity and dharma.
