Buried Past Picks Up the Phone: Ajay Khajuria’s Debut Thriller I Know Your Secrets Is Out Now

Your past finds its way back.

Ajay Khajuria’s debut novel, I Know Your Secrets, is now available on Amazon. It is a high-stakes thriller about a father, a family and a secret that has waited more than forty years to collect its debt.

The Plot

Delhi, 1982. The city is hosting the Asian Games, and Santosh Kumar, a shopkeeper’s son from Muzaffarnagar studying at Hindu College, meets Natalia, a young woman travelling with the Soviet delegation. He says yes to her. That one yes will shape the rest of his life.

Decades later, Santosh Kumar, known to everyone as S.K., is a senior advisor to the Ministry of Defence, respected in the country’s most guarded corridors. He has a devoted wife, Madhu, twins Sanyam and Sara studying abroad, and a quiet dream of publishing his poetry once he retires. Retirement is finally in sight, and for the first time in years he feels free.

Then his phone rings.

“I know your secrets.”

The voice knows everything: his past, his bank accounts, the clothes he is wearing, the meetings no outsider could know about. First it wants money. Then it wants something far more dangerous, the classified details of India’s defence deals. And if S.K. refuses, it knows exactly where his children live.

As the truth closes in, the story races from the corridors of the Ministry of Defence to a Cold War reckoning in Moscow and a final confrontation among the snowbound peaks of Switzerland.

Blending Cold War espionage, family drama and a chillingly modern edge, I Know Your Secrets is a story about the debts we never stop paying and how far a family will go when the only way out is through the one truth they were never supposed to find.

From the Author

“Almost everyone carries something they never speak about,” said Khajuria. “I kept wondering what happens when that locked chapter suddenly opens. A secret kept for a week is a worry. A secret kept for years becomes part of your identity. When it’s threatened, it’s an entire life at risk.”
