I Don’t Believe in Marketing Businesses I Don’t Understand. Here’s How I Believe Businesses Should Grow.
The philosophy of Siddarth, Founder of The Aura Lab
There is something I have always believed about business: You cannot build a successful brand by simply making it look successful. You have to understand what makes the business work, what holds it back, and what will take it forward.
That belief shapes the way I look at marketing, business relationships, and the way we build The Aura Lab.
I have never looked at marketing as simply creating Instagram posts, shooting videos, developing websites, or running advertisements. These are activities. They are not the business objective.
The real question is much bigger.
Why should a customer choose this business over its competitors? What makes its offering valuable? Is the brand communicating that value correctly? Is it reaching the right audience? And when someone discovers the business, is there a strong enough reason for them to trust it?
These are the questions I believe every business should be asking before investing in marketing.
I Look at the Business Before I Look at the Marketing.
One of the biggest mistakes I see businesses make is investing in marketing without first understanding what they actually need.
A business might approach us asking for social media management. But after understanding the business, we might discover that its actual challenge is poor brand positioning.
Another business might want to spend more on advertisements, when the real problem is its website, customer journey, or conversion process.
Sometimes, the business doesn’t need more visibility. It needs a stronger reason for people to choose it.
This is why I don’t believe in prescribing the same marketing solution to every business.
Every company has a different story, different customers, different market conditions, different challenges, and different ambitions.
My first responsibility is to understand those differences.
I want to know how the business operates, what it sells, who it serves, how it competes, what it has already tried, and where its owner wants to take it.
Only then does marketing become meaningful.
I would rather understand a business properly before recommending a solution than sell a service simply because someone is willing to buy it.
A Client Is Not a Project. It Is a Responsibility.
This is probably one of the most important principles behind how I want The Aura Lab to operate.
When a business approaches us, they aren’t simply purchasing a marketing service. They are placing a part of their business in our hands.
They are trusting us with their brand image, their communication, their customer perception, their marketing investment, and sometimes even their next stage of growth.
I don’t take that lightly.
I believe the relationship should begin long before the first creative is designed or the first campaign goes live.
It begins with listening.
Understanding the founder’s vision. Understanding the company’s strengths. Identifying what isn’t working. Understanding the expectations and establishing what success should actually look like.
From there, we work towards a clear direction.
I believe clients should know why something is being done, what purpose it serves, and how it contributes to their larger business objective.
And once the work begins, the responsibility doesn’t end with delivering what was promised.
We need to observe, evaluate, communicate, improve, and keep looking for opportunities to make things better.
Because a business owner shouldn’t have to constantly wonder whether their marketing partner is thinking about their business.
Trust isn’t built when a client signs an agreement. Trust is built through everything we do after they sign it.
My Approach: Think Like a Business Owner, Execute Like a Specialist.
I have always been interested in understanding how different parts of a business connect.
Branding influences perception. Design influences communication. Content creates interest. Websites create digital experiences. Advertising generates opportunities. Search visibility helps customers discover a business.
But none of these elements should operate in isolation.
A beautiful brand without visibility can remain undiscovered.
A high-performing advertisement without a strong customer experience can waste opportunities.
A website without a clear conversion journey can lose potential customers.
And consistent social media activity without a strategy can become nothing more than a routine.
This is why I believe in looking at the complete business picture.
At The Aura Lab, our approach brings together brand strategy, branding and design, social media marketing, content creation, creative production, website development, SEO, digital strategy, and performance marketing through our broader growth ecosystem.
Through Rank It Up, our specialised performance and growth company, we also focus on paid acquisition, lead generation, search visibility, and conversion optimisation.
The intention is not to make businesses spend on every available service.
It is to identify what they need, understand the priorities, and bring the right capabilities together to move them forward.
What Happens After a Business Onboards With Us?
For me, onboarding should never feel like handing over a requirement sheet and waiting for deliverables.
It should feel like bringing a team into your business that is genuinely interested in understanding what you are building.
My philosophy follows five important principles:
1. Understand Before We Execute
We start by understanding the business, its market, audience, existing positioning, challenges, and expectations. The objective is to establish the context behind every decision.
2. Build a Direction, Not Just a Deliverable List
We identify priorities and create a strategic direction. Every creative, campaign, communication, and digital activity should have a reason behind it.
3. Treat the Brand Like Our Own Responsibility
We pay attention to how the brand is represented, how it communicates, and how consistently it appears across customer touchpoints. The details matter because customers notice them.
4. Stay Involved, Not Just Available
A good business relationship requires communication, accountability, and continuous involvement. We should be thinking about what is working, what needs improvement, and what opportunities the business might be missing.
5. Keep Improving With the Business
Markets change. Customer behaviour changes. Competitors evolve. What worked yesterday might not work tomorrow. Our approach should evolve with the business rather than simply repeat the previous month’s activities.
These principles represent the kind of relationship I want every client to experience with us.
I don’t want The Aura Lab to be remembered as the company that delivered a certain number of posts or advertisements.
I want us to be remembered as a team that understood the business, brought clarity to its marketing, and genuinely cared about where it was going.
Results Matter. But Understanding What Creates Those Results Matters More.
I strongly believe that creativity without commercial understanding is incomplete, and performance without a strong brand foundation can become difficult to sustain.
Our experience working with more than 50 brands across jewellery, fashion, beauty, healthcare, furniture, lifestyle, food, FMCG, D2C, and B2B has reinforced this belief.
Across a cross-section of client campaigns, company-reported results include an average 5.1× Return on Ad Spend, with one campaign generating more than ₹1 crore in sales within a 30-day period.
These numbers are encouraging, but I don’t believe in using one business’s results as a promise to another.
Different businesses have different economics, audiences, products, competition, and conversion challenges.
What matters is understanding the factors that influence performance and building a strategy around the realities of each business.
For me, a successful engagement isn’t just about achieving a good campaign result. It is about creating a stronger foundation for the business to keep growing.
Technology Can Accelerate Work. But It Cannot Replace Thinking.
The marketing industry is changing rapidly, particularly with the growth of artificial intelligence.
I see AI as an opportunity to improve the way we think, create, produce, analyse, and execute.
At The Aura Lab, we are exploring AI-assisted creative production, ideation, workflow optimisation, and content development to make our processes more capable and efficient.
But I don’t believe technology alone creates differentiation.
Anyone can access tools. Not everyone knows what to create with them, why it matters, or how it connects to a business objective.
The real advantage comes from combining technology with human understanding, creative judgement, strategic thinking, and execution.
That is the direction I want us to keep moving towards.
I Am Not Trying to Build Just Another Agency.
I have a much bigger vision for what we are building.
I want The Aura Lab to grow into an organisation that brings together creativity, technology, branding, digital experiences, and business growth.
I want to build teams that understand their craft, take ownership of their work, think beyond instructions, and understand the impact of what they create.
More importantly, I want to build an organisation where businesses feel confident placing their trust.
Because the relationship between a company and its growth partner should never be transactional.
It should be built on shared understanding, transparency, responsibility, and a common ambition to achieve something meaningful.
A Final Thought: Your Business Deserves More Than Just Marketing.
If there is one thing I want business owners to understand about my approach, it is this:
You don’t need another company simply producing content for your brand. You need people who are willing to understand why your brand exists, what makes it different, what your customers expect, and what it takes to move your business forward.
That is the kind of thinking I want to bring into every business relationship.
I don’t expect every business to be the same. I don’t believe every challenge has the same solution. And I don’t believe growth can be built through shortcuts.
I believe in understanding first, thinking strategically, executing with purpose, taking responsibility, and continuously improving.
Because at the end of the day, we aren’t here just to market businesses. We are here to help build them.
